Victory keeps Llantwit in promotion chase

By Contributed Item in Cricket

Going into this game against Felinfoel, Llantwit had seen their form evade them in this highly competitive league.

This has resulted in the Cavs sitting in mid table, only a win away from being in the promotion places, to a defeat away from being in the relegation battle.

A lot was riding on this fixture as they faced the team who are bottom of the table. Captain Scott Buckley won the toss and decided to bowl on a very moist wicket.

This decision proved to be warranted as Llantwit went through the Felinfoel batting line up at regular intervals.

Mike Wood ended up with an impressive four wicket haul. If only he could stamp the Cavs card as often as a certain train company who will remain unnamed.

Ed Pickford chipped in with a couple of wickets and the remainder were taken Ieuan Williams, Andrew Williams, Neal Pritchard and Kieran Davies.

The hosts only managed to set a target of 95 for Llantwit. They needed early wickets to put pressure on the visitors.

The script was going according to plan as they removed the two openers Dom Henson and Neal Pritchard without the scoreboard being troubled too much.

Fortunately for Llantwit, Ed Pickford put together a solid innings with Kieran Davies to build a platform for them to chase down the target.

Shane Callard managed to get himself among the runs again with a much-needed knock of 20 not out, assisted by Wood and Williams in the run chase.

Andrew Williams put the game to bed with an impressive four and six in successive balls to win the game for Llantwit.

This win, all but condemning their opponents to relegation meant that the Cavaliers have everything to play for with three games to go. Depending on other results, the league is so tight that one win would secure safety yet three maximum point wins may actually lead to promotion.

As a great leader of men once said..............we go again!

The Cavs would like to thank their sponsors: Anthony Brown Estate Agents, Chiropodist Roz Couzens, Cooperative Travel, Llantwit Major Autocentre, Oxford Lawns and Gardens, Simons Plaice, Sinclair Direct and Wave Design to Print for their much appreciated sponsorship of the club.
