Sea cadets need volunteers to keep up the good work

The Penarth Sea Cadets will be holding their AGM on Thursday, August 31, at 6.30pm at their headquarters at the top of Stanwell Crescent, CF64 1DF.

A spokesman said:?“All parents and members of the public will be most welcome.

“Due to the structure of Sea Cadet Units in that each unit is a separate charity it is a statutory obligation that each unit should have a fully functioning onit management committee.

“This committee oversees the financial aspects of the unit and makes sure that the governance of the unit is carried out correctly.

“We meet once a month on a Tuesday evening for about an hour and we have no direct contact with the cadets.

“We would welcome any adult who has an inclination towards youth welfare and thinks that they may like to join us, as without a functioning management committee the unit would be forced to close, which would be very sad after having survived and prospered for 70 years.

“The young people gain a great deal from belonging to the Sea Cadets, as they are able to take part in many activities.

“They also develop a sense of responsibility and of personal pride which helps greatly in their lives, both inside the unit and in the world outside as they mature into young adults.”
