Mixed fortune for the ladies last week.
On Monday, July 17, in a 2 rink Evening League game, the visitors were from Sully Sports. Having an indoor carpet green, in addition to an outdoor grass green, is an advantage and although Shirley Wilkinson’s quartet lost by just one shot, the visitors won overall by bowling well on our carpet green.
Rink scores: Lin Wallace, Lynda Wilson, Sue Flower and Shirley Wilkinson 17-18; Diane Purnell, Phyllis Price, Diane Lloyd and Joan Bradley 12-23. Match score Cowbridge 29, Sully Sports 41.
The following day, another home game, the visitors in a Cowbridge Shield game were from the Bridgend Municipal. It was a comfortable win for Cowbridge on all three rinks.
Scores:?Sandra Collin, Mary Dowdle, Phyllis Price and Joy Woolford 20-9; Janet Morton, Tina Payne, Diane Lloyd and Dorothy Pritchard 31-8; Corrie Bufton, Maggie Penn, Lynda Wilson and May Jones 32-6. Match score Cowbridge 83, Bridgend Municipal 23.
Good form continued in the Thursday League game, again at home, to the Kenfig Hill and Pyle Club with Cowbridge winning on two of the three rinks.
Rink scores: Corrie Bufton, Phyllis Price, Joy Woolford and Shirley Wilkinson 29-9; Diane Purnell, Jan Lewis, Lynda Wilson and Sue Flower 25-17; Caryl Davies, Tina Payne, Sylvia Hole and Diane Lloyd 16-20. Match score Cowbridge 70, Kenfig Hill and Pyle 46.
In their two midweek away games - first against Barry Athletic in the Munro Cup and second against Porthcawl in the Evening Triples League - Cowbridge were second best.
Back home for the Saturday league game, Cowbridge were in need of a win and 14 points against bottom of the league Beddau.
Although winning overall we lost on two of rinks and four of 14 points available.
Rink scores: Tom Purnell, Rob Lewis, Bryan Hole and Roger Barwick 17-21; Terry Dunsworth, Tony Lewis, Peter Launder and Bob Penn 27-12; Gerry Lloyd, John Jones, Brian Kent and Norman Wilkinson 20-14; Mansel Davey, Guy Morton, Colin Wilson and Clive Pritchard 15-22. Match score Cowbridge 79, Beddau 69.
We are now past the half way stage of the league fixtures. There are two more away games and three home games to play.
The first of these is at home to table leaders Millwood this Saturday, and another home win would be welcome!
