Barry Beavers are just pipped at Cwmbran

Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club travelled to Cwmbran for the Gwent Dolphins Swimming Gala on June 10.

An total of 26 team members attended the gala and 25 took part in the event on the day along with supporters (parents, grandparents, siblings, other club members as well as those who run the club).

The team were Keira Richards, Keira Dyne, Faye Sage, Leah Marcus, Amiya Watkins, Layla Ankail. Aiden Thomson, Jamie King, Callum Savory, Suzanne Haslam, Dadine Dyne, Philip Daly, Andrew Sage, Holly Willis, Abby Finch, Louis Davies, Jen Thomson, Heather Williams, Kyle Siirak, Gareth Lloyd, Mark Eveleigh, Jack Kemp, Sarah Davies, Tyler Sovory, Ffion Jones and Nicholas Cushen.

Unfortunately Ffion couldn’t take part on the day but supported the team anyway.

On the day an total of 14 medals were won by the team (five golds, seven silvers and two bronzes).

Also the team’s League swim team came first again.

The gold medallists were as follows: Abby Finch girls’ 50m; Heather Williams ladies’ 50m; Mark Eveleigh men’s 50m; Jack Kemp boys’ 100m; junior relay Jack Kemp, Leah Marcus, Callum Savory and Abby Finch.

The silver medallists were as follows: Leah Marcus girls’ 25m; Callum Savory boys’ 25m; Nadine Dyne ladies’ 25m; Andrew Sage men’s 25m; Louis Davies boys’ 50m; Nicholas Cushen men’s 100m; senior relay – Philip Daly, Kyle Siirak, Nicholas Cushen and Mark Eveleigh.

The bronze medallists were as follows: Layla Ankail girls’ 25m; Jen Thomson ladies’ 50m.

The club did really well on the day and almost toppled Rhondda Polar Bears Swimming Club, but they were the victors by only one point. Pat and the team congratulate the whole team for doing so well and improving their times.

The club will be holding their second ‘Party in the Park’ at Porthkerry Country Park on August 6 at 12 noon onwards, and the club would like to invite people to come for the event.

Tickets are still available for £2 per ticket. They can be bought on the club night session on Saturdays between 3.45pm – 4.45pm.

On the day there will be entertainment events, raffle, competitions, barbecue, live acts and so on.
