Alun Cairns returned as Vale of Glamorgan MP

Alun Cairns has retained his seat in the Vale of Glamorgan, but with a reduced majority.

Mr Cairns, who served as the Secretary of State in the last Conservative Government, polled 25,501 votes. His nearest challenger, Labour’s Camilla Beaven, polled 23,311 votes.

The turnout in the Vale was 72.72 per cent, higher than in the last general election in 2015 (71.18 per cent).

Plaid Cymru came third for the first time in the Vale of Glamorgan with Ian Johnson securing 2,295 votes.

Jennifer Geroni, of the Liberal Democrats, received 1,020 votes. Melanie Hunter-Clarke of UKIP got 868 votes. Stephen Davis-Barker, Green Party,received 419 votes. Sharon Lovell of the Women’s Equality Party got 177 votes. The Pirate Party candidate, David Elston, polled 127 votes.
